My daughter's carnival dress has arrived! And along my son's TMNT costume with the awesome halfshell. Surprisingly no katana's...
My kids were so happy with their costumes I had to document their joy. One of the things I enjoy the most is capture these precious moments without interfering. And so I used the available light I had, which was the window light. This time of year natural light is very scarce. So timing was perfect since it was about 1pm. That is when the light shines at its best.
I used an 85mm 1.8, so that I could have a faster shutter speed. It does make it hard to focus properly, but that is the wonder of the digital era: we see the results fast and we can react fast. I set the ISO speed at 640, one of my favorite because it delivers great results without fussing afterwards with noise reduction software.
So all in all it took me 5 minutes to get the shot and less than 10 for the editing.
When I think back to 2007 when I first started out with digital editing, I can't believe how far I have come. What would have taken me one hour then, takes me about 8 minutes today.
Consistency and perseverance have taken me a long way, although I feel there is so much more room for improvement. I can't wait to look back to this day and rejoice in what I will have achieved eight years from now!!
